This week Socialtext as well as Technorati got venture funding. Congratulations to Ross and David. Well deserved.
I love that both of them are not making a big fuss about it and focus on building their services and company. They also always have the greater good in their perspectives when making decissions. Very nice.
Ross presented Social Software in November of last year and David talked about how Technorati is going to be of service in March of this year.
New slogan for Future Salon: See them here first before they are getting big. :-)
The Omidyar Foundation is one of the investors in Socialtext. Their purpose is right up my alley [after all my personal blog is called: Do My Little Part]:
We believe every individual has the power to make a difference. We exist for one single purpose:
So that more and more people discover their own
power to make good things happen. We are actively building a network of participants
because we know we can't do this alone. We invite you to learn more about us
and some of the people we're working with.
Here is what Pierre has been up to:
Since June we have funded efforts in a number of areas:- Microfinance
- Bottom-up Media
- Open Source
- Intellectual Property
- Voting
- Social Software
All super important areas where his engagement can really makes a difference.
There was a suggestion floating around at the PlaNetwork Conference this year: How about a grassroots movement to buy Clear Channel. Once you have ownership you sell off the stations to the local people of the movement.
