Set strong guiding principles at the beginning when creating an organization, live by them and the organization is going to be strong.
Similar to Google's "do no evil" David Sifry at the Future Salon on Friday said, that "be of service" is probably going to be the main principle for Technorati.
Sounds a bit like a vow taken by brothers and sisters entering a monastery :-) David stressed, that they want to be of service first and foremost for the average internet user or developer.
An example is the Technorati Developers Site a Wiki with the Technorati API documentation, code samples and implementations. Very nice.
Weblogs are still growing at an astounding pace, about 2000 new ones are created every day, we are talking about Weblogs, not posts. Even though about 35% of these will be abandoned within three months, it is big and still getting stronger.
David recommended to check out Bloglines (or Feedster if you ask me. I recommended both in a post on SDN (unfortunately still free registration needed, we are working on it)) if you want to get familiar with online RSS feed readers.
It was a great presentation from David, don't know why fewer people then usual showed up this Friday, you missed out. Good luck at PC Forum this week, where Technorati is one of only 7 companies to present.
Hey, thanks for having me.
A few points:
we're tracking about 12,000 new weblogs per day, not 2,000.
And there were 9 companies that presented at PC Forum. We were fortunate to be one of them...
