FS with Doug Engelbart Webcast Details
Over 130 people have RSVPed so far to the Doug Engelbart Collective IQ Future Salon
One of my favorite replies is:
Our high school future salon group in Arcata, CA (Humboldt Co.) is planning to participate via webcast and chat. We would like some help in how to do the webcast and chat. Could you e-mail the steps in logging on to the webcast and irc chat?
I had no idea that there is a high school Future Salon Group in Arcatia. For everyone out there that would like to join us remotely. Point your Quicktime viewer (File open URL ...) to the following address: http://mfile.akamai.com/14947/sdp/accelerating.org/salon_01_2006.mov
IRC chat as always: Server: irc.freenode.net Channel: #futuresalon
(If you don't have an IRC client, search and download one from the Internet.)
If you are coming to the event, come early for your seat. Bring your laptop for the wireless in the room and the chat with the people in the word and Second Life.
I just hope everything works out. It is going to be amazing.

Collective IQ with Doug Engelbart Future Salon Details
Harry Max, Doug Engelbart and I sat together yesterday to talk about how we can create the best Collective IQ Future Salon possible. It is happening this Friday the 20th.
We came up with the following. To get you into the right mindset we will start out the evening in small groups of up to 6 people that tackle the following questions:
- What collective capability need to be improved.
- What things would you like to improve electronically with other people that you can't do currently?
- What can we do to collectively get better at understanding and solving complex problems?
- How do we get smarter as a group?
- What makes a group of people look dumper(smarter) than they are?
This is happening form 6:30 to 7:20 every 20 minutes or so we rearrange the groups. The suggestions are collected and Doug will try to tailor his talk to a couple of these suggestions. (We derived this a bit from the Brain Jams and Christopher Allen's Weave suggestion)
This is going to be really interesting. It will be broadcast not only to the world, but also into Second Life where in anticipation of the event some enthusiasts have already created an avatar for Doug Engelbart.
If you have not done soe please RSVP: http://tinyurl.com/8zevs for the event. It's free.

Jaron Lanier at the Cybersalon in Berkeley

Jaron Lanier ramping up the McLuhan Ramp is the most watched Future Salon Video on the Internet Archive.
He was also on a panel with Will Wright at the Accelerating Change Conference in 2004.
Both are interesting to see or listen to, but nothing better than the real thing.
Our Cybersalon friends in Berkeley are hosting him tomorrow:
Sunday, Jan. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. for a Cybersalon featuring
Jaron Lanier, who coined the term "virtual reality" and launched the
first VR company. He also owns an amazing collection of world
instruments, and we've asked him to talk about anything he likes, so
it could involve music and/or advancements in technology as we know
it. $10 donation for wine and cheese, and feel free to bring friends
and family. We're at the Hillside Club (www.hillsideclub.org
2286 Cedar St., in Berkeley, near BART, wheelchair accessible.)
See you there.
Update: Forgot to mention that Jaron Lanier is now writing a Blog at the Huffington Post with some really thoughtful posts, worth reading.Posted by Mark Finnern in Events | Permalink | Comments (0)
